I'm hoping for some advice on the best way to get Opal (my BZ) installed into a kitchen that really is unworthy of her. The stiuation is as follows. Our Modern Maid (1989) has made clear that it wishes to retire by refusing to allow its oven to work. A stove repair man indicated that he couldn't find replacement parts and suggested a new stove. Voila! Opal is here, but not ready for service. I had hoped to attempt to emulate Lowracer, but this forces a change in plans. I can get a reasonable refurb and safety installation performed within 3-5 weeks by the folks at Antique Stove Heaven or Jimmy of Antique Stoves (see Todd's web site). Jimmy is faster, prices are about the same. There is no way that I could do the job in any reasonable time frame given the demands of work, my desire to actually know my family and the completely inflexible demand of my spouse to have a working oven IMMEDIATELY. The main problem is that the Modern Maid is a 30 inch stove that sits in a space in the short arm of an L shaped, tiled countertop that fits the stove dimensions very closely. Opal can't go into that spot and I don't think that it can be expanded to accommodate her. I think that Opal will need a space in the long arm of the L. Perhaps it will be possible to redirect the gas line currently supplying the Modern Maid. My plan is to work with a licensed plumber and someone with tile/cabinet skills to give Opal a space. Finding skilled tradesman in Los Angeles to take on a pretty limited task strikes me as problematic. Anybody have any advice or warnings.
